    Duration of the project

    October 2021 – June 2025

The Dancing/Feieren project examines balls as popular entertainment in the Minett Region from the 1920s to the 1980s. It traces the evolution of dance and popular music practices and cultures, linked to everyday life in the Luxembourg mining basin. It focuses on balls in different spaces, from café-dancings to discos, also including Zeltfesters (“tent parties”). Because balls were central to the creation of the social fabric, these spaces offer new perspectives on society. Dancing/Feieren began as part of a postdoctoral research project at C2DH, within the transdisciplinary team Popkult60, and funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (2021-2025). The project resulted in the creation of a book-object, Feieren! Danz, Musek a Fester am Minett, forthcoming in Spring 2026. Its design and production are supported by the Ferroforum.
