Discovering magicians in Luxembourg’s popular culture

During the 1960s in Luxembourg, national and international male and female magicians played a pivotal role in shaping popular culture. Their performances became an integral part of the annual Schueberfouer fair, leaving a lasting impression on attendees. Even today, when people reminisce about the fair, magic performances remain a vivid memory. To engage with those memories, we present a collection of photographs from the Magica Club Lëtzebuerg’s collection.

    Duration of the project

    September 2024 – April 2025

Magicians provide an opportunity for the audience to temporarily escape the mundane aspects of their daily lives, offering a means of accessing realms of wonder and imagination. Magicians were a prominent feature of the 1960s entertainment landscape, performing at both fairground shows and in theatres for both children and adults. The national club Magica Club Lëtzebuerg received a donation of photographic albums from its member Roland Peusch, also known as Perol. The albums contain images of mostly male magicians who appeared in Luxembourg, some of whom are well-known, while others are less so. We invite you to assist us in learning more about these performers and their performances. Our aim is to maintain their legacy and contribute to a better understanding of popular culture in Luxembourg.
